Catherine Rock

Catherine Rock is an Athlone artist working mainly in the medium of oils. Following completion of a two year course in VTOS (Vocational Training Opportunity Scheme) she went on to Cluain Mhuire College of Art Galway as a full time student, and graduated in 2008 with a BA (Art and Design)

Catherine paintings are included in many private collections in Ireland. She takes particular pride in paintings acquired by The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ireland which hang in their new Head Office in Dublin. The Institute has pursued a policy of supporting Irish Artists for many years. Five of her paintings were selected for this collection by the independent art advisor Derville Murphy. Derville who is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland and was Art Curator for the Bank of Ireland from 1998 to 2008 wrote of Catherine’s work “Catherine’s painting Territorial (2009) is confidently painted with an atmospheric exuberance and joie de vivre. This work, along with her other colorful abstracts, will provide a perfect foil to the architecture of the new building.”  The complete article including a photo of Catherine’s painting “Territorial” can be seen on the Accountancy Ireland website.

The O.P.W Dublin commissioned two paintings for the new contemporary building in Buncrana Co Donegal which was built for Dept. of Social Welfare.
Catherine has exhibited in the Providence Market Restaurant and Gallery, Galway and also the Market House Gallery Mullingar. She was selected by curator Maria Kerns for the Emerging Artist award by Westmeath Co. Co. in 2009.

Catherine is an intuitive painter. Her work is concerned with the human condition. It illustrates a personal exploration and discovery of the power within and investigates the constraints which we place upon ourselves, evoking a sense of at once vulnerability and power. At present Catherine is working on a new body of work in Abbey Road Studios in preparation for her next exhibition.
