Luan Gallery

Since 2012, Athlone’s Luan Gallery has showcased both national, and international visual art projects ensuring a varied and engaging arts programme is delivered to the people of Athlone.

The gallery, built at a cost of €3.4 million, extends the well-known 1897 Fr Matthew Temperance Hall, which over the years has held many roles including cinema, town hall, library, and concert hall. Luan Gallery has won both the RIAI Best Cultural Building 2013 and the coveted Civic Choice award in 2014.

To date, the gallery has hosted various shows including local, emerging artists such as Paul Quast and Séan Guinan, national upcoming talents as seen in the RDS Student Art Awards Travelling Exhibition, as well as established artists such as Catherina Hearne, Sinéad Ní Mhaonaigh and James Hanley RHA.

Luan Gallery promotes a strong educational programme throughout the year offering guided tours, workshops, lectures and classes.

Join Eamonn Maxwell, collections adviser to the Arts Council of Ireland in conversation with artists Jesse Jones, Clare Langan and Sonia Shiel at Luan Gallery on Saturday 30th of June at 2pm.
