1. ABOUT THIS OPEN CALL

Open submissions for Luan Gallery's 2020 programme are now being accepted in response to the theme of Queer Migration.

Queer Migration: the movement of members of the LGBTQ+ communities from rural Ireland to urban centres questioning the presumed utopia of rural Ireland and issues of acceptance, oppression, Irish values and community mindsets.

In light of the mass migration of people internationally and how this “age of migration is centrally implicated in the construction, regulation, and reworking of sexual identities, communities, politics, and cultures… and how sexuality constitutes a dense transfer point for relations of power” (Eithne Luibhéid Queer/Migration An Unruly Body of Scholarship), we are inviting artists to submit artwork that responds or addresses the concerns and questions inherent in the concept of Queer Migration.

Potential subthemes specific to the concept of Queer Migration may include:

Migration | Loss | Grief |Growth | Healing |Adaptation | Identity|Transition| Temporality

Applications should include the following:

Cover letter

Artist CV and statement

Exhibition proposal

Images

Links to audio visual or film works (if applicable)

Submissions should be made to info@luangallery.ie with Queer Migration in the subject heading.

2. LUAN GALLERY PUBLIC SUBMISSIONS POLICY

The support of artists and the provision of exciting programming are paramount to the operation of the space. Submissions are reviewed by an independent selection panel, in collaboration with gallery management and curator and subsequently their recommendations are made for approval to the gallery Board of Directors for the upcoming exhibitions programme. From here the annual exhibition programme is developed.

We are eager to learn about work by local, regional, national and international artists.  We wish to exhibit a wide range of diverse works representing practitioners from different disciplines and career stages.
