Over three inspiring Saturdays in June and July, Garden to Gallery invites you to take part in a series of free visual arts workshops hosted across three vibrant cultural venues — Luan Gallery, Athlone Castle, and Abbey Road Artist Studios.

The Garden to Gallery project will begin in the Historical Garden at Athlone Castle on Saturday 14th June, where participants will be guided by the Athlone Castle team in learning about the history and folklore associated with the native herbs, flowers, and vegetables growing in the garden. This sensory engagement will provide an opportunity to connect with the plants and select those that will serve as sources of artistic inspiration throughout the workshops.

Following this introduction, participants will take part in a series of professionally-led visual arts workshops at Abbey Road Artists’ Studios.  In the Natural Pigment and Dye Workshop on Saturday 14th June, sustainable artist and designer Niamh Butler will guide participants in the process of creating natural dyes and paints using selected botanical materials. These materials will then be used in the Sustainable Printmaking Workshop with visual artist Hilary Kinahan on Saturday 21st June, where participants will explore environmentally conscious printmaking techniques. The series will conclude with a Watercolour Art Therapy Workshop led by Art Therapist Tara Mulvihill on Saturday 5th July, where participants will use their natural paints to create expressive and considered artworks in the tranquil surroundings of the Athlone Castle Historical Garden.

The Garden to Gallery project will culminate in a group exhibition in Luan Gallery (Boardwalk Gallery) showcasing the artworks created during these workshops, bringing together all participants in celebration of their artistic achievements. This exhibition will be launched with a reception at Luan Gallery.

Workshops are free and all materials will be provided. Participants are asked to commit to attending all three workshops. Garden to Gallery is suitable for adults of all ages, skills and abilities.

Spaces are limited — sign up now to secure your place and be part of this unique artistic experience from Garden to Gallery.
